Be memorable!

Have you seen this little guy? He’s a regular on TV at the moment, and this cute card popped through my letterbox last week. This is a clever campaign by EDF Energy that has ‘personalised’ its brand, and made it stand out from the other energy suppliers.

The campaign highlights their clear and transparent billing policy, and their commitment to low carbon energy. But although it has a serious message, the friendly character (apparently named Zingy) has built up quite a fan base in his own right.

He is shown dancing to catchy, energetic tunes such as Together in Electric Dreams by the Human League, on a variety of electronic appliances. If you missed the ad, you can see it here.

There’s a second one, showing a sad Zingy who suddenly perks up when he hears some good news from EDF and dances to Hawaii 5-0  in the bird bath (my daughter loves this one!)

There are already lots of ‘spoof’ ads on YouTube – a clear sign of success!

The moral of this story is, you don’t need a glamorous or exciting product to be memorable. You can create a personality for any product or service – just make sure it’s relevant.
